Halloween revelers crowded into downtown Kent for the city's annual, unofficial celebration Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011.

The rain stayed away but didn't take freezing-cold temperatures with it for Kent's unofficial Halloween celebration Saturday night — the temperature dipped to 32 degrees Fahrenheit before midnight.

The crowds brought the usual — bananas, monkeys, Where's Waldo? — and the unusual — a slew of Japanese people fleeing Godzilla — to what Kent police dubbed Ohio's "biggest spontaneous block party."

And police were certainly out. Groups of police officers mingled among the crowds downtown. Outside of Kent, police set up sobriety checkpoints, including one at Stow-Munroe Falls High School manned by Summit County sheriff's deputies.

The crowds certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves on a night filled with fantasy. But reality will come for many today when they are released from jail following their arrest the night before or are simply fighting the after effects of a night filled with drinking.

Last year, Kent police arrested 47 people and Kent State Police arrested 53 people on Halloween night for charges ranging from disorderly conduct to underage drinking.

Yes well behaved and fun....2 hours was way much for this Geezer, good fun.
I could see the closing of parts of Main,Water and Franklin St. ....Halloween Parade Floats sponsored buy local Busness to help pay for the cleanup and police work.

Some more income could come from food vendors in strategic areas.
It's clear the Halloween Festival is not going away so management is a good idea.

Thanks to the police for there good work!
