Great video. Thanks for sharing. With no disrespect to the University intended, I am so glad you featured commentary from a former Kent resident/native to remind us that there is more to "iconic" Kent than college life. Many landmarks hold memories for the natives. How poignant that the gentleman came to watch them raze the site of his former Easter dinners and wedding reception.

Matt: Love that you got to talk with longtime Kent physician John Jacobs! Dr. Jacobs and his lovely wife, Jean, are incredibly dedicated, hard-working volunteers for the Kent Historical Society. My parents would have been married 57 years this July 10th. I believe they had their 1st Wedding Anniversary Dinner there many many moons ago!!! So Sad!!

I figured the tie and black shirt were fitting for a "funeral" of sorts. I have a lot of fun memories from there during my time as a student at Kent State, so it's definitely a sad moment for myself as well.

Wow, love the action of the door popping open just before that side of the building collapses! We'll miss this icon.

Matt, do you know if the building owner at least let Habitat come in and strip out re-usable items? I would have loved to own that fencing!

great reporting with video, Matt.......I think we would like to see more videos, particularly of the new building that is going on downtown. Videos work well with out of towners like me, trying to keep up with what's happening in the ol' home town. keep up the good work!

Thanks Chip. We've done several videos of the downtown redevelopment efforts. Just search "downtown redevelopment" here on Kent Patch and you'll find lots of videos. And you can expect to see lots more in the future.

It was going to cost the landowner $500,000 to fix the buildings structure problems. I hope this answers your question on why the building was demolished.

Many a night spent in the old Robin Hood, playing music in there, listening to music,fun times but also a very sad time- the night John Lennon was murdered I was there with friends .I hope a new landmark capable of creating a lot of great new memories for people rises from the rubble.
Kent was and is a great town, I miss it but visit whenever I return 'home", but I'll miss that sign as I drive down Main Street.

Very sad. They probably could have auctioned off the sign for charity, too. Shame.
