Two Dogs Died Monday in Cherry Street House Fire
No people were injured in late-night blaze that caused $75,000 in damages to rental home.
Two dogs perished in a house fire late Monday evening at 327 Cherry St. in Kent, but no humans were injured in the $75,000 blaze.
Kent Fire Capt. Chuck Palmer said the department received a call at 10:40 p.m. Monday about a house on fire with people trapped inside. But when firefighters arrived on scene, bystanders informed them no humans were inside the two-unit rental house.
Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 30 minutes, Palmer said, and they remained on scene for about three hours. He said the fire caused “substantial damage” to 327 Cherry, but there was no exposure damage to neighboring houses.
Palmer said the fire’s origin is under investigation by Kent Fire investigators and the Kent Police Department.
Kent Fire received mutual aid from the Ravenna City, Ravenna Township, Streetsboro, Rootstown, Stow and Mantua fire departments.
The two-story century home is owed by Ronald and Cheryle Reitz Sr. of Kent.

So sad. Does anyone know what kind of dogs they were?

Capt. Palmer didn't know, but he said all the firefighters were pretty "bummed" about it.

Two dogs died and so did three cats. Always saddens me to read about kids or animals..

That's so awful about the animals. I feel so badly. Glad that no people were hurt... I couldn't believe how many sirens I heard last night. I live very near to the police station and in over 7 years here, I don't remember ever hearing so many sirens in one time period like that. Holding a space of love for all whose lives are touched by this loss.

It is terrible to lose your home, but to lose your beloved pets must make it even harder. Does anyone know if a fund has been set up to help Eddie? How can we as a community help him?
