Storm Causes Brief Power Outages Across Kent

Rainstorm swept through Kent quickly Thursday

A fast and slightly furious rainstorm swept through Kent shortly after noon Thursday causing brief power outages across the city.

At the intersection of Fairchild Avenue and North Mantua Street the storm cut power to the traffic lights, and drivers momentarily turned the intersection into a four-way stop.

Traffic lights also were out briefly on S.R. 59 between Prospect and West Main streets, one Kent Patch reader posted on our facebook page.

Students and staff at Kent State University reported short power outages at halls across campus, but power was restored to most within minutes.

"It was weird. Hard rain for just a few minutes and my power went on and off a few times," Sarah Skibiski wrote on our facebook page. "Then it was over just like that!"

FirstEnergy reported scattered power outages across Northeast Ohio due to high winds that accompanied yesterday's rains.

Less than five people were still without power by 5 p.m. Thursday, according to FirstEnergy's website.
