Nine new flags, complete with poles and lighting, adorn the top of the AMETEK building in downtown Kent.

Matt French, vice president and general manager for Kent's division of AMETEK, said the flags were installed this week and represent the nine countries where the firm has manufacturing operations that report back to Kent.

"The flags are to highlight the international city that Kent has become," French said via email during a business trip to Serbia.

AMETEK's international locations represented include: the U.S.; Great Britain; Brazil; China and Serbia.

The firm isn't the only entity in Kent with international connections.

At Kent State University, enrollment of international students has been climbing steadily in recent years to a high this fall of 2,217 — an increase of 19 percent above 2011.

I have not heard about our sister city in Africa for some time - is it is Zambia, Lesotho ? How is that going?

You're thinking of Dudince, in Slovakia.

No, Matt ... Kent had this agreement with a city in central or southern Africa, complete with plans to exchange students ... the city's officialdom spent a goodly amount of time with residents and educators in preparation and it received widespread publicity (and proably cost a small fortune) ... the Slovak thing is very recent and is a product of Rudy Bachna, the old KSU gymnastics coach, I think ... let us hear from the city on this ...

Afternoon Matt,
Dan Smith with the City here...I think David is going back over 15 years ago. Louis Zunguze (sp?) back in the mid 1990s I think did set up a Siter City agreement. Since this was three City Mangers and over 15 years ago, I'm not sure who would know about it. I vaguely remember hearing about when I became the Chamber Director in 1999. It predated that time. I'll ask around.

Why not an Obama flag, after all over 50% of the Ohioans voted for him ! They must have believed his lies about not cutting oil and gas leases, his stabilizing the bank system, the fast and furious weapons program, and on and on, but the biggest lie is about Benghazi, for which he should be impeached, because he murdered the 4 Americans. He watched them being killed and stopped the assets available which could have saved them !Why ? Because they could prove that Obama was sending arms to radical muslums !Also the voters must like the high cost of gas, food etc.He stopped the pipeline from Canada to ths Gulf, He stopped American oil drilling in American waters but let Brazil drill in our waters thus putting 50,000 men out of work !Then let us buy our oil from them !Obama gave Soc. Sec. to illegals ,made his own laws of immagration, did not close the southern boarder, run up a national debt greater than all our Presidents, weekened our defences by cutting the military, and most terrible of all Obama is installing "Agenda 21" sponsored by The United Nations, which will take away many of our Freedoms !!!! This Obamacare is so wrong, expensive,a bureaucracy unbelievable, wait for Wash. D.C. to let your Doctor treat you, fine you if you do not have insurance ,the elderly will be withheld treatment, and even a tax law is included. On and on ! This is just a few of hundreds or more requirements ! Happy 4 more Years !

You are so correct C Man ! So far it is America but Changing fast .I hope You and I can at least try to stop this Obama attempt to trash the Constitution. Clinton signed on to the Agenda 21 and Obama is implimenting it. Soon we all will loose so many of our freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution !
