Should Cost of FirstEnergy Stadium Naming Rights be Disclosed?

The Cleveland Browns have sold the naming rights to their stadium. What do you think about the new name?

Cleveland Browns Stadium is no more. From now on fans will watch Cleveland football games at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Team owner Jimmy Haslem announced that Akron-based FirstEnergy Corporation was awarded the naming rights to the football stadium for a 17-year period at an undisclosed cost, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

It is the first time in franchise history that the Browns stadium has a corporate name, joining the ranks of other NFL teams who have done the same, according to The Plain Dealer.

What do you think of the new stadium name? What would you name it? Should the cost be disclosed? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Yes, of course, the cost of First Energy's naming rights to the stadium for 17 (or is it 20) years should be public. Will this cost raise our electric rates?

This reflects First Energys waistful use of electric rates . This is no more then a shaimless and needless self promotion. Its not like i could go any where else for service.

with a Power Utility Commission head who used to work for FE in charge of letting increases pass, who knows if the naming rights will be on our bills?

My auto insurance is through Progressive. When Progressive bought the naming rights to Jacobs Field, my rates did not go up at all.

People are worrying about nothing.

maybe, but First Energy has a history of passing their costs on to customers.
I for one am saddened that the stadium we built is now named for Ohios worst polluter. It would be better as Budweiser stadium!

I heard it was like 100 million dollars...they said it on the radio, so the info must've been leaked.

First Energy will pay $6 million per year for 17 years = $102 million. First Energy reported to investors in November that profits were down 20% compared to the previous year because of declining demand and competition from other companies. So, you can be sure that regulators and consumer advocates will be watching that the cost of naming rights isn't passed onto First Energy customers through rate increases.
