Hometown Bank (fomerly Home Savings Bank). It is local! It is well run, and has avoided the mortgage scandals of the big banks by intelligent, honest, business practices. It is the real thing. I would not go anywhere else.

First Merit cheated me out of $560.00 would not let take a person off my account that I added on without their permission then let that person change the account into their name. Plus it is not as well insured as American owned banks because it is not American owned, unless that changed since my legal battle with them.

Did you go after the person who changed it into his/her name and has your $560.00? Have you contacted the president (not the branch manager) about letting the person change it into his/her name? You gotta go right to the top!

I went after everybody. Letters went as far as the group that owns Merit bank in London (at that time I don't know if they still own them the way things are shuffled now days). It was a nightmare. When my lawyer threatened to go to the media suddenly all the smart talk stopped. A whole new attitude bloomed and I received a check and an apology with a little extra enclosed. My lawyers fees were paid separately. It was a miracle. They knew they were wrong, plus my lawyer was going to let everyone know how people's money was only insured up to $100,000 so that would have upset a lot of people. I only bank in American owned banks now, I hate how that sounds but it is how it is.
