Police Catch Acorn Alley Vandals

Charges expected Monday in downtown vandalism

Kent Police have caught two of the three men involved in vandalizing the popular Acorn Alley downtown shopping center.

Kent Police Lt. Bob Treharn said officers were able to identify the two men from video camera surveillance tapes of the property at 165 E. Main St.

"We're trying to identify the third person," Treharn said.

The men reportedly caused between $500 and $1,000 in damage during the Labor Day holiday weekend when they pulled down a string of globe LED lights and smashed the bulbs.

Treharn said formal charges have not been filed yet, so he could not release the names of the two men who were arrested. Charges are expected to be filed Monday morning. What charges are filed depends on the exact amount of damage caused.

Ron Burbick, the developer of Acorn Alley, said he plans to prosecute the suspects to the full extent of the law.

"We’ve got to set an example," Burbick said.

I'm glad they caught the vandals.

why were the lights so low that someone could reach up and grab them? or did they have to climb to get them?

I hope they don't get off with a mere slap of the wrist! Scrubbing off graffiti is a
good suggestion.

How were police able to identify them so quickly? Were they criminals already known to the police?
