No Closure in Wells Sherman House Court Case
Magistrate hears attorneys' arguments, gives time for written briefs

The court case over the relocation of the historic Kent Wells Sherman House to greenspace on North Water Street continued Friday in Portage County Common Pleas Court.
Portage Magistrate Kent Graham listened to attorneys for the city of Kent, the non-profit Kent Wells Sherman House Inc. and Save the Standing Rock Garden — the group trying to prevent the relocation — without ruling on the matter.
Friday's hearing was held so attorneys could argue their cases over Save the Standing Rock Garden's request for a permanent injuction to halt the relocation of the house to the lot at 247 N. Water St., which is owned by Kent Wells Sherman House Inc.
After less than an hour Graham told the attorneys they had until mid March for John Plough, counsel for Save the Standing Rock Garden, to file his brief on the permanent injunction request and for Kent Assistant Law Director Eric Fink to file his response.
After the hearing, Kent Wells Sherman House board president Roger Thurman said the group has not changed its plans to put the house on the lot.
