'Newdle Bar' Not Your Typical Asian Cuisine
Bar, restaurant coming to downtown Kent redevelopment
Hiroshi Tsuji and Josalyn Barton believe they've got the perfect recipe of healthy, exotic cuisine and nightlife to create Kent's next trendiest hang out.
Tsuji and Barton will open "Newdle Bar," a combination Asian restaurant and bar, late this summer in the new Davey Resource Group building, which is under construction at the corner of Haymaker Parkway and South Water Street downtown.
Tsuji said their business model is similar to WagaMama, a London-based noodle bar, and the noodle bar and restaurants that have exploded in popularity in New York City and other major metropolitan areas in recent years.
"It's a very healthy, trendy type of food," he said.
Tsuji is no stranger to the restaurant business. He's opened 12 different businesses throughout Northeast Ohio during his 30-year career, including traditional Japanese restaurant Shuhei in Beachwood.
He said the dining focus of Newdle Bar is on a healthier option.
"It's not a typical Chinese, Japense or Asian type of restaurant," Tsuji said.
The new Kent bar and restaurant has 3,200 square feet and will feature about 120 seats and a 40 foot long bar.
Barton said the bar will include TVs for major sporting events, but the decor will not envoke your average college bar atmosphere. A Lyndhurst resident, Barton will serve as general manager in Kent.
"We're going with a very clean look," she said.
She said they hope to become a part of the Kent community by taking part in downtown events. Tsuji's other restaurants occassionally hold their own funraising events for local charities.
The Kent business space remains under construction in the new downtown building, but it's location is the second space south from the alley way.
Barton and Tsuji are hopeful to open the space as early as mid August but want to at least be open by Labor Day weekend.
"We're kind of at the mercy of construction," Barton said.

This is good news - we've been craving noodles and the only place nearby I've found is Noodle Cat, downtown Cleveland - so this place will be fairly unique to the Kent area.

I agree that an Indian restaurant in KENT would be nice. "Bombay Sitar" in North Canton is very nice. Recently opened "Jaipur Junction" is in Hudson.

My husband and I were in with some friends on Friday night - the experience was not good. Some may be attributable to the newness, but some really cannot given the experience of the owner and manager above. We waited over two hours and did not get our food, we ended up leaving for Pufferbelly instead. Too bad, eagerly awaiting opening: 1) We asked for the progress of our food 45min and 1 hour after ordering, and did not get a response from our server, we then asked the GM (above) at the 75min after, we were assured that we would have food “20 minutes out” (exact quote from the GM), 2) at that time, the GM offered us a round of free drinks and 50% off of our food bill, 3) only 4 (out of 6) ordered drinks, instead, we asked for something from the sushi bar as we were all starving at 90 min, we were told that we would have to pay for them at 50% off, 4) we ordered one each of The California and Fresh Alaska rolls, but they used smoked salmon in the Fresh Alaska, 5) GM was spotted sitting at the end of the row of booths by the wall playing with a customer's baby, several times, 6) at 105min after, the waitress came out to tell us that one of our orders was no longer available, 6) we asked to leave about two hours ordering, the GM (after being seated and playing with said baby several times) let us leave without paying for about $60 worth of drinks and sushi, 7) the waitress was sent to handle most of the issues at our table and was caught in a bad situation, tipped $10.

you waited 2 hours? who waits for 2 hours? what's even more ridiculous, however, is going to the pufferbelly afterwards - blech.
