Romney: Obama Has Made the Election About Big Bird

Paul Ryan makes joint appearance with Romney at evening rally in North Canton.

The evening was cold and rainy and the local high school football team was playing its neighboring rival. But the Republican presidential ticket of Romney and Ryan drew a huge crowd to Hoover High School Friday night.

Gov. Mitt Romney campaigned in Iowa and Ohio Friday as national polls showed a tightening presidential race. A CNN poll on Friday showed Obama leading by 4 percentage points in Ohio.

With the race seeming to be narrowing here, rally-goers at Hoover High School said on Friday that this presidential contest was getting exciting and very watchable.

"I think this is the most excited I've seen people ever," said Lauren Zink of Jackson Township. "It's good. I think it should continue like this. I think this is probably the biggest election we've had since ... I've been voting."

Megan Murphy of Canton said with the race so close, the election takes on even more significance. She was glad to attend Friday's rally -- even if the weather was miserable.

"It's so close and so historic," Murphy said. "I don't think it's smart to miss anything like this."

Romney came onstage at about 8:15 p.m. and started off by attacking Obama's health care reform plan.

Romney told the crowd that the president has chosen to make election about Sesame Street characters and word games.

"The Obama campaign is out of ideas and out of excuses," Romney said. "That's why, come November, you're going to make sure he's out of office."

Romney said that while he has no plans to cut the military, Obama will.

Romney also said he will "get economy going" by taking advantage of energy resources and opening new trade with other nations.

"I'll lower tax rates on small businesses," Romney said. "Unlike the current administration, I like business because I like the jobs that business creates."

His running mate, Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan, came on stage with his wife and children.

"We need leadership. We need a leader to run at these problems and fix these problems in Washington," Ryan said. "And that is Mitt Romney."

Ryan said the presdient is "dividing, trying to win an election by default."

"Think about how we would feel if Obama were elected," Ryan said. "We would have another four years like the last four years."

Several speakers took the stage to whip up the crowd before the GOP main event.

Patricia Heaton, Cleveland-area native and star of the television show "Everybody Loves Raymond" introduced Romney and Ryan.

"You know what Cleveland's motto is? At least we're not Akron," Heaton told the crowd. "But after driving through your beautiful city it should be 'We wish we were Canton.'

"We have the opportunity to vote for someone who, as governor, brought both parties together and turned a deficit into a surplus," Heaton said of Romney before introducing Ryan.

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel, running for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Sherrod Brown, said, "The only way we're going to change Washington is by changing the people we send there."

U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci, also up for elections in District 16, gots boos while talking about Brown and cheers when mentioning Mandel. U.S. Rep. Bob Gibbs, who is seeking election to District 18, predicted that the president will get the pink slip in 11 days.

Friday's rally, which was attended by thousands, was the second or third GOP political appearance that Bruce Hein and his wife have attended in recent weeks.

The Canton couple said they both planned to vote for the Romney ticket.

Marge Hein said the country needs a president with good business sense. "Obama's not doing anything," she said.

Economy policy and the federal budget also was influencing Zink's vote. "We cannot be in debt by trillions of dollars," she said. "A new direction is what we need."

Rally-goers began to fill the high school baseball field around 5 p.m. as dusk fell on the chilly, rainy day. The line to enter the event wrapped around the entire baseball field and down an adjoining side street.

A stage was set up in the middle of the Hoover High School baseball field, faced by the stadium seats. The Oak Ridge Boys performed before the speakers got under way.

The event came on an evening with another must-watch contest that captured the attention of North Canton residents. But this battle played out on a football field: the Hoover High Vikings were set to play their neighboring rivals, the Jackson Polar Bears.

North Canton Patch heard from a number of readers about the dilemma of two big events on the same night

Another visit and another lie from Romney. This time he said Jeep was moving to China.

Chrysler says differently!
"Despite clear and accurate reporting, the take has given birth to a number of stories making readers believe that Chrysler plans to shift all Jeep production to China from North America, and therefore idle assembly lines and U.S. workforce," the Chrysler spokesman said. "It is a leap that would be difficult even for professional circus acrobats."

Ranieri said Chrysler "has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China."

The Governor said in his 'big speech' today 'I know what it takes to lead, I am a leader.

How silly..

The Governor has NOTHING to say to concerned women. The Governor has shown us time and time again what kind of leader he would be when the going get's tough.EVERY TIME there seems to be an issue that is 'hard', he avoids it like the plague. His mode of operation seems to be that if he just avoids anything 'tough' people just give up and move on to something else. That is not leadership, that is extremely weak and spineless.

Mr Mourdock is a man Governor Romney ENDORSED this week for high office and will certainly oversee women's health legislation at some point and NOW Governor Romney has 'no comment'.

'Gods Will' has NO place in the same sentiment as 'rape'. Not even in some abstract Lenny Bruce joke.

My boy just returned in August from whatever it is they are still doing in Iraq, and we SEND kids overseas to combat extremism brought around by the 'Gods will' mentality. It has ZERO place here at home in the US Government.Governor Romney is a disaster, you can not like the President, but at least he takes stands and you know where he stands on stuff like this.

The Governor is acting like a pathetically weak and spineless chicken. Expect for Governor Romney to continue him to exhibit ZERO leadership when it is needed.

OBAMA IS UNPATRIOTIC AND IRRESPONSIBLE - He said so himself.

http://www.usdebtclock.org/

Candidate Obama: "The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents – #43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back - $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That's irresponsible. It's unpatriotic." (July 3, 2008)

DIDN'T WE ALL BELIEVE HIM??

SO WHAT HAPPENED??

FORWARD to 2012

"The problem is, is that the way OBAMA has done it over the last 4 years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $9 trillion for the first 43 presidents – #44 added $7 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $16 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back - $50,000 for every man, woman and child. That's irresponsible. It's unpatriotic."

Mrs. You're obviously an idiot. First: it takes a majority of voters to get elected. The party of the poor needs more voters to be poor, and the party of the rich wants more voters to be rich. If Romney gets in you will see The Republicans trying to increase the number of middle class people. If Obama gets in he will try to reduce the number of middle class voters. Romney wants small business growth, Obama wants government dependence. You can't see that, ergo: You are a fool!

Jean, you are the prime example of the fallacy that every one thinks what Mitt Romney pays on investments is even comparable to what you and I pay on income. Two totally different taxations. And the capital gains tax rate was supported by a bi-partisan congress. Stop making it sound like he's paying less in taxes on earned income than you are. He's NOT!

You're buying into the lies that Obama wants you to believe, only giving you half of the truth.

Sorry Brian you are wrong about that. When you withdraw money from your 401k you are taxed at the same rate as all other income. Only capital Gains are taxed at the 15% rate, which BTW Holly, was passed by a Republican Congress in 2003 and signed into law by your hero GW Bush. All part of his great plan of lowering taxes on the wealthy since for the most part they are the only ones who have money to invest in the Stock Market.

Consider these facts before you vote:
1. Is the economy better off now than it was four years ago? Based on the evidence, I'd have to say no. Wages are down, the the prices of everything we buy is up. The price of gas has doubled. Good jobs are scarce.
2. Are the slight "up tics" in the economy a solid trend in the right direction? I don't think so. First, the gains are very slight. Second, I believe they are the result in the temporary stimulus by the Federal Reserve, in which they printed a lot of new money. It provides a slight bump now, but the cost will come later - after the election. Ben Bernanke is trying to save Obama's job, along with his own.
3. The continual misrepresentation of Romney on the auto bailout by the Obama administration. Obama appears to be taking complete credit for the bailout, while simultaneously saying that Romney was for liquidation of the auto industry. This is an absolute falsehood. It was Bush who initiated the bailout and TARP. Obama continued it and then expanded it, to his credit. However, Romney was one of the first to say that the industry needed to go through bankruptcy reorganization, and eventually they did exactly that. He also said that any needed loans should come from the private sector. He never said that the industry should be liquidated, or that he would deny federal funds if he were president, and private sector funds were not available. Obama lies!
4. The Benghazi coverup and lies.

bob lang

Here we go again with the same old lies. The price of gas was down from over $4 right before Obama took office because the economy was in the dumper. The stock market is up 67%. Taxes are lower than any time in the last 50 years.A
s far as the auto bailout. Romney wanted the private sector to provide funds for the auto industry but no one would have been able to do that because the economy was in the dumper. If it hadn't been for government funds the companies would probably be closed by now plus the many companies who suppied the auto companies. Even the executives at Ford, Toyota and Honda supported the bailout because they feared their suppliers would go under. As far as the Benghazi coverup, even Fox news military expert is telling folks to stop second-guessing the Benghazi situation.

@Colter95; your set of so called 4 facts all contain the same root flaw, that being your misunderstanding of the 2008 financial meltdown.
1) You forget what 2008 was like. Credit was frozen, the housing market collapsed and we were losing hundreds of thousands of jobs every month. By any fair analysis, we are definitely better off than we were in 2008, not by leaps and bounds but better off none the less.
(2) Slight up ticks are all we can expect until the housing sector recovers. Foreclosures have to be worked through before the housing market will return to normal. If you want to believe that Romney has a magical wand w/regards to the housing market, then be my guest. As for Bernanke, I too think there will be a price to pay for QE 1 - 3 but your theory of Bernanke's motives are just that, a theory not fact.
(3) Your auto bailout opinion is the easiest to debunk. GM needed a huge infusion of capital in order to emerge from bankruptcy. The credit markets were frozen, therefore, hedge funds and equity capital was not an option and the banks were operating on government bailout money themselves. Romney was dead wrong. Without government intervention there would be no GM today.
4) the Iraq war that Romney still endorses resulted in thousands of deaths and a trillion dollars in cost without so much as a hint of WMD found. To this day Bush/Cheney have not given a proper accounting for those intelligence failures w/o much alarm on the part of you Republicans.

276 democrats
206 republicans
which is about 30% more democrats polled ....now with that large of a oversampling should not obama be up by more than 5

the most recent CBS poll has Obama up +2 nationwide
when you look at this poll you would have seen that their sampling was as follows
463 democrats
384 republicans
a 18% oversampling to get a +2 Obama Lead

purple state ohio poll has obama up +2 with a +7 democratic oversampling

@Murphy-Solon:
1)I remember all the promises Obama made in 2008. He didn't deliver on them. Not even close. And he said during the campaign that if he didn't deliver after four years, that it would be a one term deal. I want to see him live up to that one, final campaign promise. And I am NOT better off than I was four years ago. Not even close.
2)The only reason there is any up tick at all is that the Federal Reserve is printing new money like nobody's business and loaning it to banks at 0% interest. It's a desperate ploy from a desperate administration, and while it provides a very slight, very short upturn, the cost down the road is going to be tremendous. And you can poo poo my theory on Bernanke's motives and timing, but it's common sense to anyone with objectivity.

Most of the states seemed to be decided already....that's why all the political ads are only running over and over in certain states
A few key states decide the election, sorry to say and not everyone votes long party lines, many people are smart enough to vote for then person, not the party.
Some in my neighborhood are even still undecided, they know how important this election is and don't want to make a mistake
As far as being better of.....the country is headed in then right direction and many people have learned from heir mistakes of over spending, credit card debt, and buying houses they couldn't afford, people are learning to save and make wiser decisions, which all leads to LESS dependence on gov't

Today’s Canton Repository runs an article titled, “Lower black turnout could mean loss for Obama,” that has some remarkebly candid comments about the lack of enthusiasm for Obama:

“Just talking to people, I’m just not feeling it,” said Stark Democratic Vice Chairman Deametrious St. John, the Ohio Democratic Party’s former director of African-American outreach.

“In 2008, everybody cared. Everybody was interested. It was exciting. Now, people aren’t excited,” said St. John, adding that many black residents are unemployed or have had their pay cut. “They think, ‘It don’t affect me, so why should I vote?’ ”

Since the first debate, enthusiasm for Romney is growing in Ohio. Commentators seem to suggest that Obama won the second and third debates, and those debates may have slightly slowed Romney’s surge. But Romney surge in Ohio continues. Perhaps more importantly, Obama has lost the enthusiasm he had in 2008. This article shows us that he has lost it even among his base.

Wow, the stench of Republican desperation is think in the air around this thread. Just scroll through the ridiculousness of the posts from Mittless campaigners like "obama is a failure" or "Brian Andrews."

Now back on planet Earth, Ohio is proving to be overwhelmingly going Obama as early voters are being polled:

Wow, I am impressed by your knowledge of the facts, defense of Obama's failing track record and intimate knowledge of budgets and finance. Thanks for sharing!

OHIO wants a future. OHIO wants success. OHIO wants less debt and government wasteful spending.

But here is what we do know: 220,000 fewer Democrats have voted early in Ohio compared with 2008. And 30,000 more Republicans have cast their ballots compared with four years ago. That is a 250,000-vote net increase for a state Obama won by 260,000 votes in 2008.

New, CBS/NYTimes/Quinnipiac Poll
OBAMA LEADS IN OHIO, 50 percent to 45 percent Romney

Ohioans who early voted, 60 percent voted Obama, 34 percent voted Romney.

96 percent of Ohio voters who haven’t voted, their minds are made up on voting choice.

Ohioans have a higher unfavorable (48 percent) rating than favorable rating (46 percent) for Romney. In contrast, Obama has higher favorable than unfavorable rating.

I believe that Romney’s lies in his false Jeep ad aren’t helping his favorability or his desperate and dying campaign! NBC-TV's Tom Brokaw called that ad "dead wrong" this morning (Oct. 31).

I would say that without question that these people are trying to convince themselves and are in denial. The electoral college is tipped so solidly in Obama's favor, that there isn't even a chance left for Romney, so guys like this are sweating it out and note how much more desperate that the posts have become from people like this and how much further from reality or proving facts. Trust me, as this turns into the last week, you will see floods of these guys pulling out the birther bs and every other desperate card that they have up their sleeve. Just look at the joke that Donald Trump turned into this week with that exceedingly desperate grasp at relevancy. Even most of the Fox people and other media sources that would have always git behind Trump, even distanced themselves from this, because it showed just how desperate the Republicans have become. OIAF's posts are just the Patch version of that same desperation.

Opps, I did it again......

WOW! How can you come on here from California, even though you signed on from Cuyahoga Falls, and talk about someone doing politcal work on the Patch. That is all you have done, aka Joseph Robert, aka Mark Peterson, aka Beth Norquist, and who knows how many others. You spread spam all over the country on different Patch to further your political agenda, and probably as a paid worker and you have the guts to call someone else out? You diminish your candidates credibility and, as I said, these tactics were the finally turning point in my voting choice. Just as annoying as those phone calls. When will politicians learn - the more they agitate people, the more likely they won't vote for you.

Yet another example of why Ohioans can’t trust Romney.

Because he is desperate to win the state, after seeing a media story on Chrysler, he falsely interprets it -- likely on purpose -- and falsely claims that the automaker is moving production of all Jeeps to China.
He and his team need a course in truth telling and reading comprehension.
He could have researched the topic before presenting these lies as facts. Making it worse, rather than having the guts to correct himself, he keeps repeating the false information, and the campaign is using some of this fiction in its ads.

Romney; Zero credibility!

The republicans watched Iraqi trucks haul what could of been wmd for 4 months to Syria . Bush knew this and it was reported on Fox so called News . So the republicans sent in our troops after watching this and the reps acted like it was an emergency for our troops to go in . They sent our troops in without the equipment they needed , one example is the steel sheilds on Humvees and jeeps and so forth. Some of our troops had to go to local scrap yards to get metal to weld onto their trucks to protect them from machine gun fire. This is fact ask some who went and look it up . . How many troops got killed going into Iraq for daddy Bush , not to liberate the people but to take out Sadamm for daddy Bush . And when we got into Iraq guess what ??? DUHHHHHHHHH no WMD . Afetr watching the tractor trailers hauling back and forth to Syria ? Fox even mentioned they might have wmd on them ! People forget its the republicans that get us into all the wars we have had. American oil companies are now pumping oil in Iraq , the reason we went in for . And now the reps are doing all they can to discredit Obama over Libya . Your not fooling anyone you republican war mongers

The real flip-flopper is Obama... Obama has done that so many times it's hard to keep track. He voted against increasing the debt limit, and then supported raising it. Campaigned against the Bush tax cuts, and then extended them. Promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term, and then doubled it. Vowed the unemployment rate would be below 8% if his stimulus was passed, but then it broke 10%. Only an artificial stimulus by the Federal Reserve now has it under 8%, barely. Promised shovel ready jobs, then admitted they weren't shovel ready. Said if you like your health plan you can keep it, but then threw seniors off Medicare Plus and employers are now saying they'll dump people onto the public exchange. Promised to have health care negotiations on live tv, but then reversed himself. Indicated Bush violated the Constitution, then carried out warrantless wiretaps, indefinite detentions, secret renditions, quadrupled drone attacks, and kept Guantanamo Bay open. Voted against the Patriot Act, but then supported its extension. Said lobbyists wouldn't work in the White House, then gave them waivers to work there. Vowed to take public financing for his 2008 campaign, then refused it when he realized he would receive more without it. Obama said his administration would be the most transparent in history. Yet his lies and coverup attempts on Benghazi are still at hand, while he tries to wait it out past the election.

The bottom line: He erased the deficit in Massachusetts (which was required by state law) and left office with a $600 million surplus. He replenished the state’s reserve fund two years into his term, pushing it to $2 billion by the time he left office in 2007.

This is pretty compelling. This is what we need in DC. Less spending and a balanced budget. We gave Obama his shot and it didn't work. Time for another Change.

VOTE...IN YOUR FAMILIES BEST INTEREST....THERE IS ALLOT AT STAKE FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS....Romney/Ryan Rebublican Agenda basically proposes three big things: slashing Medicaid, cutting taxes on corporations and high-income people, and replacing Medicare with a drastically less well funded voucher system. These concrete proposals would, taken together, actually increase the deficit for the first decade and beyond.
Mitt Romney said at the first debate, that he had a "plan" for health care that included pre-existing conditions and the next day his campaign said that was NOT correct. So, GOOD LUCK in finding an insurance company who accepts pre-existing conditions! This applies to EVERYONE...not just seniors!.... Not even the over 55 seniors are safe if Medicare is slowly starved of funding as Republicans plan to do..... VOTE…in your families BEST interest…We all know what it has been like for our families and friends, since 2008, when wall street recklessness and the banks crashed the economy. We just cannot go BACK to the FAILED Bush Policies that Romney embraces, that almost sent us into a Depression!

Why they won't have to have Swiss Bank Accounts anymore! PLUS Middle Class will be giving them a $250,000 Tax Break to boot! ..... The Debates gave us a look at each candidate.Romney CHANGED his positions drastically in hopes to win votes by fooling people....... Quite simply there is no math that shows that Romney's $5 trillion tax cut can be revenue neutral by eliminating deductions just for the wealthy. It wil effect the middle class or swell the deficit to unprecedented levels....... Tax cuts for the wealthy simply have not delivered what we were told they would in the Bush Era. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Going BACK to the FAILED BUSH POLICIES MITT EMBRACES, WOULD BE A DISASTER FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS!
