Steubenville Rape Case Puts Spotlight on Teen Accepted to Kent State

University officials gathering information on high school student set to wrestle as a Golden Flash in fall 2013. Teen played for football team at center of rape case.

Kent State University is reviewing the status of an incoming freshman athlete because he was a member of the Steubenville, OH high school football team, two members of which have been charged in connection with a notorious rape case.

Kent State officials are closely watching the case, in which two Steubenville football players are set to go to trial next month on charges of raping a 16-year-old girl in August 2012.

Of interest to Kent State is whether the case expands to charges against other members of the Steubenville Big Red football team.

"This is a top priority," Kent State spokesman Eric Mansfield said by phone Sunday from Mobile, AL, where he is with members of the university's football team and Kent State Athletics staff for the Golden Flashes' appearance in the GoDaddy.com Bowl.

Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richmond, two star players for the Stuebenville high football team, were charged in August with sexual assault, according to Steubenville city and police officials.

The New York Times reported that the charges stemmed from a night filled with parties attended by members of the football team at which the assault of the 16-year-old girl from West Virginia was witnessed — and captured in photos and video on cell phones — by other student athletes at Steubenville high.

Kent State officials posted a statement on the university's Facebook page Saturday following allegations made online about another Steubenville high school athlete who has been accepted to Kent State on a wrestling scholarship.

"University leaders are aware of the developing investigation in Steubenville, and we are gathering information from the proper authorities," the statement posted Saturday by Kent State officials said.

Mansfield said the university is now following the case in Steubenville closely to determine if some action should be taken regarding the student who has been accepted to Kent State.

"We understand the severity and the seriousness of the allegations, and as we collect more information we will take appropriate steps as warranted," he said. "We are now following the developments from Steubenville very closely."

The student whom Kent State officials are gathering information about is Charlie Keenan, a senior at Steubenville High School who has been a star athlete on the football field and wrestling mat.

Keenan has not been charged or identified as being directly involved by authorities investigating the sexual assault case.

Keenan won 40 matches in his junior year and was the first Steubenville wrestler to reach the state finals in 15 years, the Herald Star reported. Keenan played as a defensive tackle and center for the Big Red football team this past fall, according to the team's website, and made several key plays for the team in 2012 high school football state playoff action.

The Herald Star reported in November that Keenan planned to wrestle in the 197-pound class for Kent State.

"I was going on some visits and I ended up going to Kent," Keenan told the Herald Star. "I stayed with their team, spent the night, and I really liked the campus. It just felt like a home for me. They have a really good wrestling program, and it was just the best fit for me to go to college there."

Keenan was offered a wrestling scholarship and signed a letter of intent to compete for Kent State. He is scheduled to start classes as a freshman in the fall. Mansfield said he was unsure when Kent State offered the scholarship.

Mansfield stressed that Keenan officially is not yet a student and is still considered an applicant by the university.

"We understand why people are so concerned," Mansfield said. "We take a case like this extremely seriously, and it is the top prority of the university right now to get as much information on this as possible.

"With all the growing media reports and the concern we’ve seen from the Kent State community on Facebook, we wanted to let them know we are taking it seriously and gathering information," Mansfield said.

Posters on the university's Facebook page, which included reposted inaccurate information about the case, urged the university to revoke the scholarship in light of Keenan's connection to the Steubenville football team.

"If the kid getting a scholarship was not photographed or video-taped being involved in this situation, but ... somehow otherwise is implicated, the courts should first determine the guilt of the individual student before the university decides on revoking any scholarship possibilities," one person wrote.

Others posting on Kent State's Facebook page threatened to transfer if the university did not take action.

"If he does keep his scholarship, I refuse to continue attending such a school that finds this (OK)," another person wrote.

Matt: Keenan has not been charged with anything. Were I young Keenan and innocent, I guess I would have to sue you and Kent State for irresponsibly spreading what is nothing more than speculative gossip at this point. You and Kent State's Eric Mansfield are guilty of inducing panic.

This kind of sensationalist before-the-fact crap screws up lives. It just makes me sick...

It was at "young Keenan's" own home where the teens were partying and the victim was raped (she was raped twice, as the teens transported her from one party to the next). Even if he did not take part in the actual rape, I'd be seriously concerned with going to a school with a male who let rape happen in his home.

And even if he wasn't aware of the rape at the time, he would have certainly heard about it after, with it being actually IN HIS HOME. Where was his support for the victim? Why did the family not do everything in their powers to figure out what happened. Instead they sided with the team and turned a blind eye.

Darly314, I'm on your side. BUT charges were filed daysafter it happened. The victim was then discouraged from pressing on by authorities but she pressed on regardless. So, you're a bit misinformed there. A huge problem is that the cops dragged their unwilling feet on some stuff, not everything. The kids somehow got a heads up and went about deleting a lot of the online evidence as well as cell phones. The cops did seize phones, iPads, and so forth but much too late. Furthermore, once everyone found out about the arrests the SOME of the "upstanding citizens and nice young men" took it upon themselves to intimidate Jane Doe, her family, and supporters. IF the nation had caught wind of it before December & January then maybe these 2 "nice young men" would have gotten charged as Adults instead of Juveniles as they have. A decision which can't be changed. In order for them to be tried as adults something huge has to happen now, like a mistrial or the like...and maybe even then...

The images recovered from twitter show he retweeted some of the despicable tweets made by Saltsman, Nodianos and others. That proves he knew of the activities going on that night and clearly makes him an "accessory to the fact" (common legal term, look it up) that this young woman was sexually assaulted. He may not have committed rape, but he did commit a crime by not reporting it. And no, claiming he didn't think anything wrong was being done is not a suitable excuse. Ignorance to the law does not excuse it. Ignorantia juris non excusat (another common legal term)

The child was battered, multiple times, and some of the batterers were ADULTS, under the law. The 'fluffed up' facts do not wash with Americans. I have family in Ohio, know teens in Florida that were scared after seeing Nodianos' 'video'. This story has gotten WORLDWIDE attention; no more pretending it didn't happen.

@ anaasc Anthony Craig was 18 at the time, Nodianos was 18 at the time, the MAJORITY of the boys tweeting/retweeting are seniors in High School some of which have already turned 18. I was under the impression that 18 is considered a legal adult in the eyes of the law. It is you just do not know what you're talking about, people like you are what's wrong with this case. If you're only going to assist in spreading misinformation, SHUT UP! There are quite enough lies going around, there is absolutely no need for you to make it appear as if these boys are innocent children. By the time they're a senior in high school they should be intelligent enough to know that taking advantage of an unconscious girl is not only against the law but morally wrong.

Chris (Kit) Myers, I think girls in Kent should panic as well as other schools where these kids may end up. Not everyone on the football team raped the girl but the moral decay they showed is a threat to society and they will be a liabilty for any school they end up at. Why? Because the schools will have knowledge upon acceptance of their moral standing. So, if they do something or fail to act appropriately again, the school might get sued since they "knew".

Considering that at least one of the incidents of the alleged rape was reported to have occurred at Keenan's own house, I don't think this response by the university is even remotely "irresponsible" at all. Sounds like a very wise idea to me.

Let's say nothing hapened at his house at all, let's say it did and he was so horrified he then kicked them out...what about the twitter comments? Not only from him directly but from his friends. If he's an upstanding young men he would denounce them as his friends. But from what I understand, Big Red's motto is "We are Big Red", "We are One", "We are family". The twitter comments even involved other girls saying vile things about "Jane Doe's" condition & circumstances that night, sloppy being the nicest. And then, after the fact, many football players & townspeople tried to intimidate "Jane Doe", her supporters, and the protesters, one guy an alumni went so far as to tell protesters to PYH...protect your holes. Yeah, all very nice kids, the nicest place around. An old run down steel town going to hell on a Mountain Dew Pellet. Football & Jesus. I'm sure not everyone has this mentality of course, I'm sure there are some decent people in that town but they must be few and far between...Steubenville isn't as nice or as recognized as Massillon...how far is that from Steubenville? And who wins when they play against each other? The tigers or big red? Different Town, different school, different people, same mentality.

Also, why is it when a person without connections or high status associates with "bad seeds", people have no problem laying guilt by association? Now when it's a well connected person associating with scumbags (like Michael Nodianos in the video and Ma'lik Richmond and Trent Mays, who were charged with the rape and kidnapping) he should somehow get the benefit of the doubt? These double standards need to end. Not to mention, part of the attack is alleged to have occurred at his house. It's not like someone just pulled that out of the air. I think there is definite cause for reporting something like this with allegations like that.

What twitter comments? Do you personally know anyone of the people involved with this case or are you just posting idiotic comments. The ONLY thing that Charlie might be guilty of is "forwarding" a tweet wondering what was going on...He was not present for this horrifying experience involving Jane Doe. Nor did any of it take place at the "Keenan" household. This whole case has been blown way out of proportion due to social media. I do not disagree that this happened and the ones responsible should pay for the rest of their lives. But the CORRECT people need to be charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent AS ADULTS. The only reason Charlie was even mentioned is because of his mom's status in the community.

Those are the facts. It's just coming back to bite them in the butt in a major way. Keenan's role in all this, if any, will no doubt come to light soon enough.

There are kids in Steubenville who aren't part of the team but throw parties FOR the team, wouldn't be happening under this parent's watch. And had it been my kid, and say I believed he was innocent (doubt it, with the whole birds of a feather thing) I would have him writing an essay on twitter about his non-involvement and denouncement of the ordeal. I would have him at the District Attorneys office singing like a canary about anything and everything he might have heard or seen. Ask his parents what they did, are doing, or demanding from their oh so innocent kid. Do they expect him to say/do anything?

Good job Kent State. Your students should appreciate your efforts to keep them safe. Anyone who jokes about a rape that happened AT THEIR home should not be accepted into a college filled with young women. This sends al huge message to kids out there who think rape is not serious. While you may get off the hook with the law or your misdemeanor could fall of your record when you turn 21, social media can bring your crimes to light and that will not go away. I would be disgusted to belong to a school that knowingly educates somebody who made jokes online about a rape and self incriminated himself.

Thank you Tim. I'm copying your response just to make sure Sherry sees it. Maybe then she'll stop defending the Rape Crew and start defending the child who was raped. Her son is a wrestler though, so for all we know he could be part of the Rape Crew too. I hope Sherry talks to him about this and makes it clear that these men are in the wrong. Until parents stop defending rapists, their sons are going to keep raping.

Actually, Timothy and Kelly, the second twitter avatar is Trent Mays:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2260542/EXCLUSIVE-Pictures-cellphone-TWO-MORE-girls-semi-naked-face-basement-16-year-old-raped-Ohio-football-stars.html

Scroll down the article and you can see a screen capture of a tweet by Trent Mays and that is HIS avatar.
So, that IS misinformation.
On the other hand, court transcripts show he WAS at one of the parties involved, and the FACT is, if you look at ALL of these kids tweets, ALL their tweets from that week and beyond were deleted.
So, if you had NO knowledge of the crime, why the need to delete your own tweets?

Plus, he had an attorney that his mom works for flood the internet with lies about him being "out of town". Eyewitness, under oath testimony proves otherwise.
Now, THAT is a clear attempt at a cover-up (imo)

The only reason Charlie Keenan wasn't charged is because his mother, Jane Hanlin, is the prosecuting attorney in Jefferson County and his father is a cop.

This also just came to my attention regarding Jane Hanlin's corruption:

A former Steubenville High School football standout and WVU linebacker was spared jail time after defense witnesses, including local attorneys, testified to his good character during a sentencing hearing on Tuesday.

Nicholas Branko Busick was sentenced to five years probation and must do 250 hours of community service after he previously pleaded guilty to two counts of assault during the commission of a felony.

For the two charges against him, prosecutors had asked that Busick serve four to 20 years of jail time concurrently. However, after five character witnesses testified on Busick’s behalf, Judge Russell Clawges opted against giving him jail time, citing Busick’s youth and previous clean record.

Prosecutor Jane Hanlin, whose son wrestled at Big Red with Busick. Hanlin said that this was the first time she’s ever taken the stand to testify to someone’s character and called Busick “one of the nicest kids ever to come out of the community.”

Maybe the good people of Steubenville should suspend its high school sports program entirely for a couple years and instead use its resources to educate its students (and pillars of the community) about bullying, date rape and underage alcohol abuse. Will it happen? Doubt it. Too many neanderthals in charge there.

Hey Major, you're right about one thing. You can't arrest stupidity. But that is not what Kent State is trying to do. As I see it, Kent State has no duty to try and educate stupid people, especially on the back of the taxpayers. This kid apparently lacks empathy and social skills if he is re-tweeting disgusting comments about the treatment of a fellow human being. I'm sure Kent State wants nothing to do with that and does not want any of its sports scholarships to benefit such backward thinking.

Major Matt Mason,
Man do I have a hard time understanding your intention. Steubenville must give out diplomas like hotcakes. Kent is only waiting for the case to FULLY unfold and for ALL the evidence to come out before making their final decision. Perfectly diplomatic and completely understandable. Now if it were me running that school, the Tweets and Retweets from Charlie's account would be enough to not accept him into the school. That would be to not only protect female students, Fraternities he may pledge, but also cover their A$$ets. Imagine this innocent boy rapes a girl while at their school, or merely hosts a party where questionable behavior would be grounds to sue, or if a fraternity accepts him and then they end up with charges against them...the school could then be sued for admitting him despite his questionable character...all Big Red team members are a walking liability (at this point) until the case is over. Any university is going to have to make sure anyone they accept from this team is squeaky clean, completely squeaky clean.

I think everyone just needs to cool their jets now. It doesn't help calling eachother names or the suspects "monsters" - in fact, the only thing it accomplishes is separate these young men from a culture that allows and encourages situations like this to occur. It's not just these young men charged with rape who are at fault, it is a culture of sexism and misogamy. When society begins to treat women as independent human beings with their own hopes, dreams, aspirations, fears, thoughts, etc. and not just sex toys and playthings for men, then we can start to bring about change. Truth be told, everyone is INNOCENT until proven guilty in the court of law. But at this point, the evidence seems pretty damning. As far as KSU goes, there is a student code of conduct that students must abide by. They are entirely within their right to look at the non-academic activities of any prospective student. Keenan may not have been charged with anything but association with a group like "#rapecrew" is certainly grounds for further investigation.

exactly. calm down people. KSU saw that people were getting upset regarding this kid enrolling and getting a scholarship. they saw what happened with Nodianos and OSU and the reaction that generated. so they're trying not to make the same mistake; they're just informing you "hey, we're watching this too and if anything sticks to this kid, we'll re-evaluate." they're not dragging his name through the mud, they're responding to allegations against them for enrolling him. his name's already out there about this and that's what generated such allegations; that's not KSU's fault.

Let me just say this and I will leave it at at.
I attended an Ohio Mid american conference school.
I have been to most of the schools following the sports teams.
Including KS.
I have no problem and encourage the code of conduct for students.
BUT......when it is not implemented currently to those attending now thats when there becomes issues.
I been to the dorms, (watching RA's fire it up and show the kids how to roll)
been to off campus housing (get out of control from the norm both males and females) including athletes.
Yet no one turns them in?
And here we have a student which the university representative for this article said....has not been charged or identified as being directly involved by authorities investigating the sexual assault case."
Why was this even put out????

So he retweated a disgusting comment.............Has you not read whats being said from some of these bloggers here who do not even know him?
From what I have saw from some of your students life on campus this is mild.
This does not even compare to what happened to the student from OSU.

What evidence is damning?
A retweat!! Let me look at all of your phone for your tweets over the years.
I have not said anything negative towards anyone . Then Jason calls me a nutbag.
Then Cindisue says I have serious issues.
The only issue here is some of you do not like to be contradicted and shown there are 2 sides to everything.

Thanks for listening!!!!

Everyone should really get out of the media spotlight of a horrific crime in which the perpetrators are being tried in a court of law. The prosecutor recused herself from the investigation because she knew the boys. Isn't that what an honest attorney would do. With all of this publicity if Charlie Keenan was actually involved (more than passing forward a tweet) he would have been charged, especially since his parents are not involved in the case.
Now onto Kent State. Shame on you! This young man worked very hard and earned his scholarship and you are threatening to take away something he worked so hard on because of unfounded rumors. I thought people are assumed innocent until proven guilty. Maybe if the media would have let the court system do their job, Casey Anthony would be in jail for killing her daughter.
Leave Charlie Keenan and his family alone unless you can provide proof that he was even at the party where the 2 men accused of rape were. Until then, stop ruining life's of innocent associates of two bad kids!

As a resident of Jefferson County, I am frightened by the lynch-mob mentality that is happening on social media regarding the Steubenville rape case. I would hope that any rational thinking person would be frightened by this as well. The “idea” of “anonymous” means to me that a person or group of persons can make an untrue statement about anybody - anybody - and release it to the world wide web as fact without any proof. It could be your neighbor; a former friend; a former spouse; your child or parent - anybody could spin a lie about you and repeat it until it becomes fact in the minds of people who don’t know you at all. The “idea” of “anonymous” in the Steubenville rape case has done just that. People who do not know the facts are lying and repeating the lie. The lie grows as the story becomes more sensational and more lies are added to the story. People need to think before they post something on social media. The first question they should ask themselves is, “How do I know that?” If the answer is “I saw it online,” or anything other than “I received the information from an actual eyewitness,” then you should not hit that post button. An eyewitness is someone who was present at a crime AND SAW IT HAPPEN - not someone who knows someone who goes to school or work with someone who might know something. Otherwise, you are spreading rumors and lies and are being of no help whatsoever to the victim, the prosecution or the defense.

What you say could be true if ANONYMOUS didn't already have a record before this. They were able to stop the insane Wesboro Church from protesting the Sandy Hook Funerals. And they have uncovered a miriad of things. Just because your town is caught in their cross hairs now doesn't mean that they are unjust, it just means they see something going wrong and they mean to shed light on it. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. So, what was that incident with the Steubenville law enforcement agencies back in the 90's??? Isn't that enough to cast what you all say in a haze of doubt???

Hey Sherry. Do you think it's okay for a Kent State sports scholar candidate to re-tweet joy about urination on a rape victim? If so, then you set the bar disgustingly low. And Local Leaks said there is more to come. Any offer of enrollment and scholarship needs to be reviewed and withheld at this point. That is all that Kent State is doing right now. As for me, I would rather give the wrestling scholarship to somebody who did not re-tweet the degradation of a fellow human being. But that's just my opinion of what civilized society should do . . .

I'm really regretting my part in all of this. So much rumor, speculation and worst of all, Schadenfreude (joy from the misfortunes of others) on ALL SIDES. LOOK AT US ALL! Don't get me wrong I fell bad as hell for this Jane Doe and I hope she gets justice. But I've come to this conclusion: As as much amusement that Nodianos got about the rape, there's even more amusement at his public lynching. And where do you think these attitudes come from? THEY ARE LEARNED, people. I don't think really think Michael is guilty of anything other than not reporting a crime and being a complete un-empathic buttwipe. But, hell I was too at his age :\ I don't know what some of these kids roles in this were other than retweets of vulgar rape jokes. Mays and RIchmond have been charged and it seems Saltsman took the photo. I'm sure justice is coming to them. But can we stop with the lynch mod, people? What kind of example are we setting for the next generation (like the kids in the video) if we are all deriving so much entertainment from these young mens downfalls? Like saying "I hope they get raped in prison", I mean really? How does that make you better than anything they said? Sexual assault in prisons is a major problem in this country that everyone seems to ignore. How can we all be joking about that? We should be mad as hell because its part of the problem. The perpetrators of any crimes will be made examples of but I need to wash my hands of this entire episode. I just feel gross.

Timothy: I dont see anyone deriving ANY amusment from this incident... just the laughing kid in the video. But as for the LEARNED behavior... where do you suppose the rapists learned that? who are they around that would condone such behavior?

why did the rapists know to do it at that HOUSE? I'm sure they didnt think they would get caught and they might not have- save for that video posting.
The one laughing in the video... knowing all the little cliches... where do you think he learned to think that so funny?

(Timothy: I think you can go into your profile and delete any comments if you are having "shouldnt have posted that" regrets.)

Another thing: it is unfortunate the "lynch mob" mentality of today BUT- the Justice System, Police, Politicians, Powers that Be- they REFUSE to just listen to a couple "whining" residents.

Justice these days TAKES A WHOLE VILLAGE.

Major Matt Mason, if you're in the thick of it and IN the know then you should be well aware of the Justice Dept's investigation in Steubenville in the 90's. The Justice Department made Steubenville's police department just the second in history forced to sign an agreement setting up new measures to combat police corruption under the 1994 Crime Bill. Here's part of the final ruling: ...officers of the Steubenville Police Department have engaged in a pattern or practice of conduct that deprives persons of rights, privileges, or immunities secured and protected by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, and that the City of Steubenville, the Steubenville Police Department, and the Steubenville City Manager (in his capacity as Director of Public Safety) have caused and condoned this conduct through inadequate policies and failure to train, monitor, supervise, and discipline police officers, and to investigate alleged misconduct. Don't believe me? Look It up. Now tell me again to listen to the attorney general.

There are two issues: (1) is there criminal conduct to be concerned about, in which case he should not be able to attend, and (2) was he was of the people that failed to take action to help the young woman. If (2), then the university can count this against him in the character assessment of his application. I would think given the strong circumstantial evidence that he may have a (2) problem, that the university could ask him to write a statement about his involvement. Certainly, if someone had a (2) problem, the university should not be expected to honor a scholarship offer based on the person not having an upstanding character.

Perhaps, given the fact that at Kent State there is a higher percentage of serious crimes committed by athletes than by the university population as a whole, all candidates for athletic scholarships should have their names displayed in Patch articles in order to get public feedback and thereby aid the university in making final selections.

So what we have here is the EVIDENCE is the retweet........awful as it maybe I need to see your Kent State code of conduct before anyone makes a decision. He can appeal any negative decisions.

That is all KS has to look at (at this point) in a decision.
He was NOT in town, they were NOT in his house!!!
How simple can they be for all of you...........FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing to do with the video or rape (alleged), was not there to see anything or report anything!!!!..SIMPLE

Court testimony by numerous eyewitnesses (under oath) begs to differ.

He WAS 'in town'
He WAS at one of the parties (at least)
He WAS in the thick of things when it comes to knowledge about tweets, texts, facebook messages, instagrams and the video.
It is FAR to great a leap to think that his circle of teammates and buddies were all tweeting and texting throughout the night and he was the ONLY one who wasn't.

And if he wasn't, then WHY are all his tweets from that timeframe MISSING? What does he have to hide?
Why are they now protected?
Why is he still Facebook and Twitter friends with the NOW CONVICTED RAPISTS?
Why?

Who stays "friends" with a rapist? That's just....SICK!

Hi Major. You're confusing criminal procedure with public reaction. The issue here is not whether Nodianos, Keenan or any other local youth committed a crime. The issue for Kent State and other universities as I see it is whether any of the Steubenvillain punks deserve enrollment and/or a scholarship in light of their repugnant attitudes and posts. Take the time to familiarize yourself with some of the social media coming out of your "concerned" and "caring" community: http://mindfuller.tumblr.com/post/40087698544/comprehensive-steubenville-teen-rape-timeline
I don't want these miscreants placed alongside decent, honorable people in the workplace or in school. Most people agree and I suspect that challenges you.

Major Matt Mason

3:20 pm on Friday, January 11, 2013

I stated the issue in previous post about this article. How many people were on that social media you called concerned and caring? Maybe 20 at the most. The community has 19,000 people in it. We both want justice served here. My concern is that KS and OSU look at the facts. Looks like OSU should not let Nodi in at all especially on an academic scholarship. Keenan is on the borderline because of his retweat.
One thing.............. I do not or at any time refer to anyone on any site as punks or miscreants . That would put me on the same level as these two youths.

I have been investigating and reporting in this story and the many claims of corruption since August. No one has been been a harsher critic of the city's leadership, especially Jane Hanlin. All that being said , thought I found there to be valid cause for concerns about how some things are run there and how this case was handled, there was nothing to indicate that corruption was the absolute cause for the many frustrations or setbacks n this case.

Furthermore there was and still is NOTHING to implicate her son. This is nothing more than the result of the lynch mob, witch hunt narrative brought on by Anonymous or those posing as such. The public and uninformed ramblings of Rosanne Barr on television where she practically accuses him on national television. Her endorsement of these terrorist vigilante hacker wannabes only helped to increase their boldness and now yet another person may be tried and convicted in the media for a crime to which there is no evidence against him, except that of rumors and hate blogs.

Next i just saw where this Local Leaks everyone is getting their info from is written by a guy that was arrested in 2010 for drug trafficking
Guess who arrested him? Can you say this kids cop daddy!
Guess who prosecuted him? His mom!!
Sounds like a witch hunt to me!! But all of you responsible adults read that blog and spread it as the Gospel truth.
Dont get me wrong their seems to be guilty ppl here. And the reason i pledge to that flag is because i believe in a system that will punish the ones that committed these crimes. This kids mom nor the city or county is prosecuting this case. Its the State of Ohio and the FBI. They will get it right with the system our elders created.

I sure hope Cleveland news kept eric manfield a job opening cause if this boy had nothing to do w this. So if they prosecute kids in steubenville and this boy is totally not involved how many of you post an apology? Im guessing none!! Enough said

For those that can't see both sides of a story, read this page written by an investigative journalist that has been digging into the Steubenville Story... I think some of you will be eating your words... that is if you can be honest enough to actually consider that the mainstream media and a lot of other people have been duped...

People who are aware and do nothing carry the same burden of guilt. What you permit, you promote.

I have read both sides and Lee Stranahan does not even think the videos are wrong. He does not even call her a victim. I do not believe anything he says! Maybe Charlie was not there, but all these are his friends and he did retweet disgusting posts!

A quote from a comment made back in early January from a poster...

"Perhaps, given the fact that at Kent State there is a higher percentage of serious crimes committed by athletes than by the university population as a whole, all candidates for athletic scholarships should have their names displayed in Patch articles in order to get public feedback and thereby aid the university in making final selections"

What you permit your promote.
You need to start cleaning your own house first!!!!!!!

How may people have any of you turned in for , cheating on their taxes, speeding, no seat belt or child restraint used, underage drinking, smoking pot (I would imaging that at least 25% of the posters use).
It is not apples to apples but you get my point.
If you have not see it with your own eyes then what give anyone the right to defame anyone.

No reason why he should not get into KS.

Matt, I hate to disagree with you but you are wrong. Those boys planned those parties because they knew Cody Saltsman had conspired with his friend Trent Mays and another girl to lure her there so they could drug her, then rape, sodomize and urinate on her. If the two scapegoats they have selected would fully disclose and name everyone that was involved that night, it would blow STEUBENVILLE off the face of the planet. The local law enforcement has shown the level of intelligence they are working on because they confiscated several cell phones with tweets, photos and videos of the rape and "inadvertently erased" the info...on over 15 phones...REALLY?? So the cover-up extends beyond the rapist Kent has given a scholarship to and for his involvement, no he should not be rewarded with a scholarship and I would not want him or any of his RAPE CREW cohorts in the environment anywhere near my children and you should feel the same way.

I can't gather enough nasty adjectives to describe the sub-human males who did this, witnessed it, let it happen - they are all equally guilty.

Lower than low, beyond redemption. The best punishment for these vermin would be to some day witness their daughters being treated the way they treated this CHILD who is someone's precious daughter.

I think both of you need to get the transcripts to the trial and actually READ and see what the TRUTH was and IS.
Watch what you say Jusay noo that is defamation.
