Many grow a strong connection with the teachers, students and school even when they return home.
Bung Jon is one of those teachers who stayed connected. He was part of the IREX program with Kent State from Indonesia. Watch his video message to the students above.
The students are in the process of creating a video message to send back to Jon.
Stow-Munroe Falls teachers participating last year included Kelly Lanci, Ed Borsuk, Carrie Harris, and Lisa Mowls. This year's teachers participating will be Kelly, Carrie and Lisa, Mary Ruehr and two middle school teachers.
The following are excerpts from a letter the high school received from Kent State about the program:
Thank you for agreeing to work with the International Leaders in Education Program, co-sponsored by IREX, the U. S. Department of State and Kent State University. These visiting scholars have been screened by the Fulbright Commissions in their countries, and are experienced, highly qualified teaches in the home countries. Kent State is proud to be hosting 15 this year. We are also pleased to that your school has agreed to host scholars for the spring semester 2013.
Later in May, the superintendent, the building principal and the partner teachers are invited to a certificate dinner to celebrate the internship and the semester here at Kent State University. We encourage you to have these international scholars be guest speakers to PTO or civic groups in the community as well as to all appropriate classes.
Thank you for your willingness to share your school district’s expertise with an international scholar, and to demonstrate your district’s willingness to learning about life and schooling globally.
