Can you see on the map that the students were in favor of the tax increase. The Kent State students should NOT be able to vote on Kent Issues. They pass many issues and then they move on and the citizens are stuck with the expense.

Are you kidding me Pat?! Why shouldn't students vote on the issues?! I am a student, live in the city, AND WORK A FULL TIME JOB! How am I not included then? You don't think other students help out with an income tax? Guess what...there are thousands of students working on campus...and guess what? They pay income taxes to the city! Quit being one of those citizens who blame everything on the students...maybe try to work together more and strive for the same goal of a better Kent?

@John: you say the police waited years and years.

Most everyone I talked to only heard about anything been so terribly wrong with the station was this summer. We aren't going to be "guilt-ed " into voting for another station.

Do we need one? sure we do. Do they go about it the wrong way? sure they did.

Residents are very very very suspicious at the timing of this.

@Teresa K. I was not a Kent resident before I moved to Kent. I grew up in rural Northwest Ohio. I have had many opportunities to move to Cleveland, but I continue to choose Kent...why? Because of the small town feel with personable people and businesses. Had it not been for KSU, I never would have even been here. Many residents take students for granted...but they need to consider...what would the economy be like if the University never grew or moved to a different location? What if we were just a small regional campus instead of Main Campus? Oh and don't forget...those students that are oh so ridiculed...constantly volunteer time and money to charities in Kent. Not saying that is directly related to income tax, but consider everything students do instead of saying that they shouldn't take an active role in shaping and moving Kent in the right and successful direction.

I'm all for a new Kent police station. However, I'm not interested in paying for it for the rest of my life. If the city had put a sunset year on the income tax hike, I would have voted for it.

Since when are residents only permitted to vote on issues only if they were born and bred in the city where they currently reside? What a lack of logic in some of these posts. Thousands of students are paying city income taxes because they not only study here but live here and work here. I can't imagine students are clamoring to raise taxes on themselves in most cases anyway. PS: Great points, Logan!

I am not going to lie, but I really enjoyed voting NO on this issue. I was not born in Kent. I am not a student BUT I am a resident and don't like being taxed more for something. Lets see Kent pd bring more to the table in 4 more years, but I will still vote No.

Maybe the kids felt safer with a 18m station. Lol. But really, how much does a permanent raise in tax really affect them.

Kent residents were ok with giving Obama another blank check for questionable federal programs paid for by the "rich", but didn't want to support its own police department with a measley .25 percent increase to their taxes. Sadly, I'm not surprised.

Look, Kent is not Flint Michigan the new violent crime capital of the US. KSU students should not get to vote on this issue but should be billed for the Police runs to campus. I think the figure was about 35% of Kent Police runs were to the campus. Why not tack on $100 to their tuition and they could pay for the new station. All in all Kent Cops have a pretty easy, lower stress job than most officers. I am taxed out so keep putting on the ballot and I will keep voting no.

No to any new taxes! Cut the budget to pay for the station. We pay enough taxes!

When it becomes more expensive to maintain than to replace, replace. I don't know that this is the case w/PD, but a blanket refusal to upgrade for any reason is foolish.
