Josh Mandel in Drag: Huffington Publishes Beachwood High School Photo

U.S. Senate candidate appears in padded bra, spandex shorts in 1996 yearbook

It looks like Josh Mandel is a pretty funny guy - or, at least he was as a student at Beachwood High School.

The Huffington Post published a photo today from the 1996 yearbook.

The photo depicts local alum and state treasurer Josh Mandel, dressed in a padded bra and spandex shorts, spotting another boy in drag in the weight lifting room.

Click here to see the full article.

His campaign spokesperson responded to the Post that Mandel knows humor is an important part of keeping up morale, adding, "He also thinks it's important to have a spotter when you're doing lat pull downs."

We are working to get the story behind the photo! Did you know Mandel in high school? Who's the guy Mandel is spotting? Email me at Nikki.Ferrell@Patch.com, or tell me in the comments!

I Didn't and don't know him still, but really? Is this the worse any of US has done in high school? I mean no one in washington or any boardroom has secrets as heinous as dressing up in a bra and permed blond wig.
(i sure hope thats a wig)

Hey, Adam, thanks for the comment! I try to balance "serious" news with a few not-so-serious posts that we know everyone will be talking about. Sometimes you, the readers, tell us what you want to see simply by clicking, sharing, and commenting on stories!

Adam, I think one of the stories here is that someone found the photo and submitted it to Huffington Post, possibly trying to "stir it up," embarrass him and in turn, has made it political. I think how a politician responds to something like this says a lot of how he or she will handle adversity down the road.

And what new knowledge have you gained in regard to "how a politician responds to something like this says a lot of how he or she will handle adversity down the road." based on his spokesperson's comments?

I'm not familiar with the "adversity" faced by the Treasurer of the State of Ohio, or a US Senator.

And I can think of many more meaningful ways to evaluate a candidate for office.

Romney would have lopped off that hair had he been able to go to the same private school. Two minor issues with the pic: is that how to spot someone in the weight room? By stroking their shoulders, and what happened to his package? However, no major issues with this pic except probably to his base of voters.

It's all fun and games until somebody gets hurt. But (sort of) seriously, you don't need a spotter for lat pull-downs. On the bench or squatting some major weight, sure. Still, very funny. This pic actually makes me more inclined to vote for him!

Why is that?

And what does "more inclined" mean? Are you an undecided voter, and this pic gives you certainty regarding his qualifications?

Disgusting.... Not the pic... The misleading headline used to insinuate inappropriate actions instead of a teen 'prank'... Why not show pics of him serving his country at war?? Because the HuffPost, for posting the pic, and the Patch and its editors, for using such a misleading negative headline, have no shame.

Right on TB Player. Where are those pictures that show his loyalty and devotion as he served this great country? And let us not forget that while he served, he was defending the right for the "Bluffington Post" to spew their venom against our heros.

But then again, it's Patch. Along the lines of Sun Newspapers.

I also think there is an important point here, one that Patch missed from the original story. Mr. Mandel's spokesperson said that "Josh didn't remember it..." Really? You dressed up in drag and posed for pictures and didn't remember it. This tells me he is lying for some reason, the same way Romney lied about not remembering his hazing and haircutting incident. Why the lies? Just fess up to what you have done in your past, and we will all respect you more.

From your Kingmaker:
"Mr. Murdoch’s thoughts on the Republican presidential candidate’s prospects? “Tough O Chicago pros will be hard to beat unless he drops old friends from the team.” Chances of that? “Doubtful,” he tapped out in a Twitter message from his iPad last weekend.

"Then, on Thursday, Mr. Murdoch’s flagship newspaper, The Wall Street Journal, published a blistering editorial criticizing Mr. Romney’s campaign, accusing it of being hapless and looking “confused in addition to being politically dumb.”"
