Group to Pitch Anti-Fracking Law to Kent Council

Residents want controversial drilling method banned within city limits

Residents against fracking in Kent are bringing an ordinance to on Wednesday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m.

The main statements of the ordinance are that Kent residents have the right to reject activities that pollute water, air, and land within the city limits, and that hydrofracking for natural gas therefore should be banned.

Any Kent residents who are interested in supporting the pro-human rights and fracking ban are advised that the public is allowed to attend the city council meeting.

"We've been circulating petitions only for several weeks and eight out of 10 people can't wait to sign," said George Sosebee, one of the citizens in support of the ban. "Everywhere we go, people say, 'It's all about the water,'  and then they are shocked to hear that state law has preempted the right to say 'no.' It's about time that both fracking and an unjust law are challenged."

Similar resolutions are emerging in several Portage County townships as well as in Kent.
