Students and staff at Franklin Elementary School in Kent do the Harlem Shake.

It was only a matter of time.

The latest online video dancing phenomenon, the Harlem Shake, swarmed the offices of Kent's Franklin Elementary School recently.

Costumed characters young and old joined the sensation and dance about to the 2012 song of the same title, named after a dance move that originated in Harlem in the 1980s.

Forbes reported that the song topped the Billboard charts thanks largely to its popularity in YouTube videos such as the one above at Franklin.

It's great that students like Cody Beler engage in research about the shootings at Kent State on May 4, 1970. One footnote to his YouTube video, which features CSNY's "Ohio" as its soundtrack: evidence shows that the guardsmen did not shoot because they were panicked and didn't know what to do. Everyone can learn more about the shootings in Kent State University's May 4 Visitors Center, www.kent.edu/may4. Keep reflecting on May 4th and telling the story.
