Fracking Opponents Hosting Meeting Tonight in Kent
Public invited to 6:45 p.m. event at Kent Free Library to plan campaign to ban fracking.

A meeting to plan a campaign to ban hydraulic fracturing in Kent will be held at 6:45 tonight at the Kent Free Library.
George Sosebee, a former Kent resident who is one of the meeting organizers, said the gathering is sponsored by several local grassroots organizations, including Concerned Citizens Ohio.
Those attending the meeting, he said, "will plan how to educate themselves and others about banning fracking and, more important, about returning local control to local people."
"Right now, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources decides what happens to Kent lands. No one voted for those officials. Why should they be able to choose for people of this area? People from Kent want Kent to have the chance to decide for themselves," Sosebee said.
Tonight's work session comes on the heels of an anti-fracking "town meeting" attended by 130 citizens last Friday, and a March Against Fracking through Kent the previous week that attracted more than 100 participants.

Humm. Fracking in Kent. Me thinks the only ones trying to Frack the people of Kent are the wackos. Any one who goes to this B.S. meeting should have to pay a extra $3.00 dollars a gallon for there gas. As to the 130 citizens at last meeting many were imports who dont even live here. Crazy, Crazy,

In rock formations like the Marcellus shale, a deposit in the Northeast that underlies parts of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, fracking takes place well below 7,000 feet and solid rock separates the shale deposits from shallow groundwater aquifers. The buffer makes contamination from fracking virtually impossible. In addition, the wells being drilled are constructed with at least four thick layers of steel casing and concrete such that they are cemented in place to create a solid divider between gas production and the fresh water aquifers.

no it's not. why would the fact that my home is heated with natural gas matter just because i'm opposed to hydraulic fracturing? this isn't the "occupy" movement either, so your "99%" comment and any intended irony is lost on me. what is funny, however, is that YOUR TAX DOLLARS (upper case, for you, myron) will be paying for the heat to keep me warm at this meeting!

"onions" or "opinions" - with your grasp of English, it's difficult to ascertain your intent. and officially, as of this afternoon, demo rat is my real name. friends can call me demo. @james - i don't know enough about hydraulic fracturing to make a conclusive argument for or against. i do, however, know that corporate profit often supersedes ethical responsibility relative to the environment or human safety. for this reason, i remain suspicious and need to learn more. look at my comments, i'm not here arguing against "fracking" - i'm arguing against ignorance.

I see Stephanie your one of the simple minded also. No onions.[ Not opinions. ]or should we say courage. Guess you have never heard of not having them. Again all this B. S. against it for safe water. Yet we do not have perk tests for wells and sewer dumping in Ohio which does get into the water system. O and yes you like to put florid into the water to protect teeth. Florid is a by product of Aluminum which causes cancer. God the list goes on. But as it is no sense to argue with a fool or thick headed demo crate. [yes its spelled right] You can all ways tell a Demo crate. But you damn sure cannot tell them any thing. Goes in the ear and is blocked by the bone. As I see it. Course I am half blind in one eye and can not see out of the other one.

since the blog was about protesting fracking I read your comments in that light. It is undenyable that sometimes "corporate profit often supersedes ethical responsibility relative to the environment or human safety"; but sometimes it is just someone trying to fill a need at the most economical rate. This nation needs energy and I sure appreciate paying $3.84/Mcf rather than the $12.+/Mcf I paid a couple of years ago.

Ironically, the low natural gas prices in the US are one of the reasons gasoline is expensive. The cost of gasoline production is low enough here that it is being exported to other countries which, in turn, raises the amount we pay.
