To residents, 13 may sound like a lot, but for city service officials it's actually a low number.
That's how many times Kent had to send out service crews to repair a burst water line this winter.
"There has been ... not nearly as many as past colder years," Kent Service Director Gene Roberts said.
From October to January this winter the city responded to a total 13 water main breaks.
The water line ruptures were spread out fairly evenly and break down as follows:
- October:3
- November: 2
- December: 3
- January: 5
Less than five years ago the city experienced more than two dozen breaks in a single winter season because of rapidly changing temperatures.

This is great! I'm sure our expenditures for this department will come in way under budget since we are saving on salaries to do the repairs and the cost of the supplies.

And with that, our rates will go up! Just like when the city as a whole started using less water and we were no less than punished!
