By the time you read this Bar 145 Kent should be open to the public.
Downtown Kent's newest bar opened via a VIP reception held Thursday night.

Owner Jeremy Fitzgerald said previously he anticipated opening to the public this weekend.
The new bar, located in the new AMETEK building on Erie Street, also will include an enclosed, outdoor patio.

Bars and restraunts are just about all there is in the new section of Kent and of high priced luttle shops--nothing practical for most people other an the out fitter shop for hiking gear and etc. Off the Wagon is a great store. We could really use a cooking store, yarn shop--yes even students knit!!!

We need more bars. They add vitality to the downtown and create jobs for the police department, the EMTs, the emergency rooms, the burn units, the people who make prosthetics and wheelchairs, and the undertakers. Who in their right mind would want a yarn shop? Imagine!

Funny, but I find another bar to be a "yawn shop". Thankfully the world takes all kinds or it would be an ugly shade of boring gray. And some people actually knit and crochet items rather than buying them. To create useful things with your own hands is, unfortunately, not appreciated in today's world. Might as well just go buy a hat or scarf made in some other by someone (adult or child) you don't know and don't care about. That way, when something happens to it, it's so much easier to just throw away.

No, I do nor believe it is a matter of self-righteousness and I am not one that never has a drink. I believe it is a matter of recognizing the destructiveness to the community as a whole by promoting Kent as a "destination" when so much of it is alcohol oriented. You may think that Kent's making the area news for drunken partying is OK. I think it is sad, very sad, and speaks very loudly about what we have become.

drunken partying IS okay, so long as the participants are behaved and responsible - it's a normal part of young adulthood...and as i remember, it was pretty darn fun. if you want a dry destination then perhaps you should move to hartville - i hear the string beans at their family-style restaurant is 4 stars.

Just got back from Bar 145. Cool place. Band did a lot of covers of 90's rap, not my gig but they sounded pretty good. Good crowd and a lot of dancing. I hope the place does well and I wish them luck. Glad it's not a yarn shop!

Ease up, people. Obviously no room for a sense of humor in the Kent Patch. Nobody can take a joke anymore. We'd rather jump on the 'hey, that offends me' bandwagon and cry about our hurt feelings. A city like Kent, with so much diversity, has something to 'offend' everyone, only if you let it. Jeez, live and let live. As for the FU Bob moniker, I don't think Robert would care. Plus, it wasn't his chosen name, it was a nickname we gave him. I picked it to keep his spirit and nickname alive. Don't care if you don't like it, not sorry if you're offended.

You pointed out he never picked the nickname up himself. Most people who remember him as FU Bob (myself included) don't have the same relationship, respect, affection and understanding toward him as those who knew him as Robert Wood. Maybe Robert wouldn't want the screenname FU Bob floating around the internet spouting off snarky comments. Hey, maybe he would, but we can't know. But you can tell some people aren't digging your use of the nickname. The man is no longer with us. I guess the thing is, respect people in death - friend or foe. Death is the ultimate end and everyone will face it one day so it is important to respect every person in death, even if you did not respect him in life.
Like you said, he never held the moniker near and dear to his heart...
